December 30, 2005: Perito Moreno (El Calafate, Argentina)
We took the bus from Puerta Natales to El Calafate, which is on the Argentina side of Patagonia. The landscape around the small town is somewhat boring and mundane, but the town itself is fun. the place is set up for tourism. Lots of quaint restaurants and cafes. It is a touristy area though.

We took a day trip to Perito Moreno, which is a large glacier (about 1.5hrs away from town). The area is visited by many tourists and we had pretty good weather. We went up close to the glacier by boat, which was fun.

You have to be careful...easy to get a nice burn from the glare off the glacier. I looked like a red apple afterwards. the ozone layer around Antarctica is very thin (there's a hole), so you have to be really careful.

We went back to town and ate at Rick's Cafe, where they have a nice salad buffet and all-you-can eat meat bbq: chicken, lamb, beef, regular sausages, and black sausages (not so appealing). They roast the meat and serve it to you fresh. Any of you meat-lovers would love this place (That means you Monty :-))
